Twestival, the Twitter-based fundraising event that raises money for charity began to much fanfare yesterday. There were events all over the UK, as well as many internationally as it looks set to turn into a global phenomenon.
Many will be thinking all you need to get people talking is put ‘Tw’ at the start of a sentence. I say that partly in jest, nonetheless it is great to hear about people from the tech/digital/PR communities coming together to raise money for local causes – in what has been billed the Live Aid of the aforementioned industries.
Personally, I have found it fascinating to see the buzz and networking around this event gather pace on Twitter and how an offline network has produced a real world event.
I’m thoroughly enjoying the thousands of spin-offs from Twitter and it is great to see the micro-blogging site being used to connect people and raise money for local causes. Long may it continue.
